HOW TO BEAT THE 3PM SLUMP

It’s the start of a new week and that post-lunch slump has me reaching for another cup of coffee.

Whilst this might make you feel better at the time, continuous coffee’s and snacking on preservatives throughout the day is not only bad for your wallet but bad for your health.

Avoid that afternoon slump and lose weight with these small yet effective tips.

DON’T SKIP BREAKFAST

What you eat for breakfast will set the tone for the rest of your day. I love having a healthy smoothie or porridge for breakfast.

These options are great for a sustained energy release throughout the day.

AVOID SUGAR & PRESERVATIVES

When you’re tired and you need a pick me up, a chocolate bar with your coffee might sound appealing. However, that spike of energy it will give you is going to make you drop just as fast.

Swap out your afternoon chocolate bar with a banana for energy or an apple for a natural sugar hit.

CONSUME A SMALLER LUNCH

While it’s a good idea to have a big lunch and smaller dinner, try to avoid eating too much at work.

Your body will be using up all its energy trying to digest your lunch and by the time 3pm comes around you’ll hit a wall.

HYDRATE

If you’re sitting at a desk all day you might not feel like drinking (the recommended daily intake) 8 glasses of water.

Keep a water bottle on your desk to sip on throughout the day to ward off drowsiness and cravings. It’s also great for flushing out toxins and aiding digestion.

STEP OUT & TAKE A BREAK

It’s recommended to get up every hour to stretch. I like to get some fresh air and go for a walk on my lunch break.

Give someone a quick call to take your mind off work for a minute and recuperate.

DRINK GREEN TEA IN PLACE OF COFFEE

Green tea is a good way to get a small caffeine hit without laying awake all night, due to consuming multiple coffees throughout the day.

Implementing these small yet effective methods should help you keep momentum throughout the day. Start to implement these changes and they will slowly but surely start to become habits.
